QRT Max Wheelchair
Tie-Down Retractor
The QRT Max sets a new standard for wheelchair securement — delivering the same fully automatic, self-locking, self-tensioning performance as the QRT Deluxe, but with a knobless design that removes the one element that has always frustrated operators and passengers alike. No protruding tensioning knobs means no interference with wheelchair wheels, no snagged clothing, and one-handed operation that makes fast, consistent, safe securement accessible to every driver, every time.
✓ ANSI/RESNA WC18 & ISO 10542 Compliant — This product meets ANSI/RESNA WC18 wheelchair securement standards. For contract documentation and compliance verification, see our Compliance Resource Center.
Key Features
🚫🔘
Knobless Design — The Key Differentiator
No tensioning knobs means no protrusions to interfere with wheelchair wheels, tires, or footrests — and nothing for webbing or clothing to snag on. A cleaner, more wheelchair-friendly anchorage point.
🖐️
One-Handed Operation
Designed for intuitive single-hand attachment and release — ideal for drivers managing multiple passengers or limited-mobility operators who need every step to be simple and fast.
⚙️
Fully Automatic
Spring-loaded automatic retraction continuously takes up slack as the belt is deployed — no manual feeding or management required. Faster engagement from every operator, every trip.
🔒
Self-Locking
The retractor locks automatically on attachment — no manual step required. Eliminates the most common securement error: attaching the hook but failing to properly lock the mechanism.
🎯
Self-Tensioning
Maintains proper belt tension throughout the journey without operator adjustment — critical for consistent crash performance regardless of road conditions or chair weight.
🪝
J-Hook with Quarter Turn
Patented J-Hook design minimizes belt twisting and accommodates virtually all wheelchair frames, including wider power chair bases, with a simple quarter-turn attachment.
🦶
Foot Release Lever
One-press foot release for fast, hands-free egress. No bending, no hand fumbling with hardware — operators can release all four retractors quickly in a consistent sequence.
✅
Positive Lock Indicator
Patented feature (L-Track applications) gives clear visual confirmation of proper anchorage lock — every operator can verify correct securement at a glance before departure.
♿
Accommodates Larger Wheelchairs
Engineered to work with wider power chairs and heavy-duty mobility equipment — the knobless profile is especially beneficial for large chairs where clearance is tight.
🔃
Fully Interchangeable
No designated right, left, front, or rear — any retractor installs anywhere. Eliminates part proliferation and simplifies field replacement and fleet stocking.
🏗️
Hardened Steel, Zinc-Coated
Commercial-grade hardened steel with zinc anti-corrosion coating — the same durable construction as the rest of the QRT line, built for daily fleet use.
📐
Low Profile & Compact
Bracketless, low-profile design sits flush to the floor — the knobless housing provides an even cleaner footprint than the Deluxe, further reducing interference potential.

Frequently Asked Questions
▸ Why does it matter that the QRT Max has no knobs?
Tensioning knobs on traditional retractors protrude from the retractor body — this can create interference with wheelchair tires on wider power chairs, catch on wheelchair footrest tubing, or snag clothing and accessories during boarding and alighting. The QRT Max's knobless design eliminates all of these contact points. For fleets operating a wide mix of manual and power wheelchairs, or for operators who manage many boardings per shift, the knobless design speeds up the securement process and reduces the chance of hardware contact with the chair.
▸ If the QRT Max has no knobs, how does it tension the belt?
The QRT Max is self-tensioning — the mechanism automatically applies and maintains appropriate belt tension without any operator input. Once the J-Hook is attached and the retractor self-locks, proper tension is established and maintained throughout the trip. This is the same self-tensioning technology used in the QRT Deluxe, but with the tensioning knobs eliminated entirely.
▸ How many retractors do I need, and what else is required?
4 retractors are required per wheelchair position. This listing is for a single retractor. An occupant restraint — a lap and shoulder belt — is also required to complete a WTORS (Wheelchair Tie-Down and Occupant Restraint System). A compatible occupant restraint is available as the
Q8-6325-A.
▸ Is there an L-Track version of the QRT Max?
Yes. The
Q8-6209-L ($150) is the L-Track version of the QRT Max, featuring an L-Track anchorage fitting with the Positive Lock Indicator. The Q8-6209 shown here is the standard floor-mount version.
